The school year in Cape Town schools starts in the third week of January and ends beginning of December. Depending on the school, it consists of three or four terms. There is usually a two week autumn break around Easter, a longer break in winter (Southern Hemisphere winter, that is) at the end of June/beginning of July, a short one-week spring break at the end of September, and a long summer holiday of six weeks over Christmas and New Year.

All public schools in Western Cape follow the same term calendar, while there may be some differences at private schools.
