Internet connectivity, although available, is not terribly efficient and cost effective. Because local call costs are not free, dial-up connections incur per-second call charges in addition to the required ISP fees.

The number of companies offering broadband connection is increasing which has lead to reduction of rates (although they are still considerably more expensive than similar services offered in other countries.) At the time of writing, the fastest broadband is offered by Telkom is 4096kbps, with monthly cap of 4 Gig (additional bandwidth can be purchased at an extra cost).

Internet cafes are fairly widespread in urban centers and offer reasonable rates, usually around R15 an hour.
