When looking for a GP, specialist or a dentist you can either choose one with a practice in a hospital or one who is working on his own. Different doctors charge different rates, and the more expensive ones are not necessarily the best. There are many highly competent doctors who charge Medical Aid rates (maximum amounts that your insurance company with compensate for a specific claim). Depending on your insurance policy, if your doctor charges above Medical Aid level, you may end up paying the balance yourself. Therefore always ask about the rates your doctor charges when making an appointment for the first time.
